While I was in Dallas over the weekend I made a wish as I tossed a quarter into a fountain at Northpark Mall. Seemed like a thing to do, adding my coin to the dozens of others lying at the bottom on the dark tile. I have a good feeling about it.

I have a lot of things I’d like to accomplish this year, but maybe one of the biggest is to be able to teach flash fiction workshops, both in person and online. To that end, I took a chance last fall and applied for a spot as a workshop leader with the NWACC Arts & Culture fest in March, and I’m thrilled to announce that my proposal was accepted!

The workshop will be a two-part situation. The 75 min will be focused on learning a little about what flash fiction is, exactly, and then we’ll create a piece of flash fiction using a photo attendees bring from home as a prompt. The second half of the workshop will be about creating collage using that story as inspiration. (There will also be some photos available to choose from if you don’t have one at home you’d like to use, and nothing final or perfect will be expected.) It’s going to be a fun time to play, to consider how we inhabit our selves in our community, and what the festival theme, “embodiment” means to us.

Take a look at the festival schedule and plan to attend some events if you can. It looks like a lot of fun. My workshop will be on Monday the 6th at noon. Hope to see you there!

  1. Congratulations on landing this gig. It’s always fun to be a speaker/presenter.
The website didn’t provide many details as yet, but it sounds like a great event and I’m happy you will be part of it.
Remind me when it gets closer to March. I’ll come if I can.
