Sitting in a Chair on the Edge of Adolescence
It’s not the dangle,
that’s not what bothers me most.
It’s the way the edge of the seat
cuts into the backs of
my knees.
If I scoot up
I can almost touch.
My shoes can skim the floor below,
almost –
If I point my toes.
When I scoot back
I can’t bend my knees.
They make a hesitant angle,
not completely flat, but not very confident
in their current form.
