Canyon
We almost missed her;
She-fox crossed our path quickly.
A watchful mama.
Further on, the bird
cocked his shiny head at us.
Stood still as a stone.
Sunlight crept away,
climbing cliffs without belays,
Left us there in cool darkness.
Mama fox was tucked in.
Raven feasting on a mouse.
We watched stars fill the night sky.
