I am not joining any kind of hashtag or trending thankfulness post game this month, but I do want to be publicly thankful in this space for a few things that mean a lot to me. I hope you’ll join me and share something you are thankful for this month (or this week, or right this minute) in the comments.

Today, I am thankful beyond measure for my husband.

When I was a single mom with 12 and 10 year old daughters, he moved from Colorado to NW Arkansas to marry me, love me, and help me raise the girls, and our son who was born later that year. I was dragging some duffle bags-full of bad relationship habits along with me after a previous 10-year marriage, and he has been (mostly) patient as we have learned to communicate, negotiate, compromise, support and encourage one another over the last ten years we have been together.

Our engagement photo… where I am awkwardly shown wrestling him into submission…

He is my cheerleader in my career, and suffers when I am emotional about something that he can’t do anything about. He thinks I am funny and intelligent (and says so!) and loves my cooking. He suggested recently that we should find a housekeeper.

That last part all by itself is reason to love him forever, right?? Unless he was suggesting I suck as a housekeeper, but I am choosing to believe he is being supportive.

I am so grateful for the years we have traveled together so far, and look forward to a few dozen more.

What are you thankful for today?

Aside from the fact that our marriage has turned his beard gray (daughters!), and I have more lines in my neck, I’d say we’re holding up pretty well.
