During one of the many, many inspiring and enlightening chats I had with fellow bloggers at last week’s Arkansas Women Bloggers University conference, the ladies around the table stumbled onto the subject of how to generate ideas for blog posts. It was widely agreed that having some clue about what you are going to write about helps us avoid the Blank Screen Stare when we sit down at the keyboard – but that coming up with ideas that can sometimes be a challenge.

There are several websites fiction writers use to keep the words flowing when they hit a snag, and writers can sign up to receive daily emails with prompts as well. I shared this information, and someone – it may have been me but I’m not sure… maybe Jacqueline… – suggested that it would be fun to create a prompt that is specifically for blogging and that includes a link party so we can go off and write the blog that comes from the prompt, then go back and share it later. Brilliant!

Having never used link tools or hosted anything on my blog, obviously I said I would take this project on. That’s just how I roll. I then rediscovered the idea in my notes from the conference, and roundly chastised myself for offering to do something I have never done before. But hey – YOLO, right?? So, I’ve given it some thought, and I think the best way to manage it will be to create a prompt that is shared here on my blog each week, and then create the post for folks to link to later in the week after they’ve had time to write.

Today is Wednesday, and because bloggers seem to be fascinated by alliteration, I am dubbing it Writing Prompt Wednesday. I will publish the link party post on Saturday for everyone to share what came from the prompt. We’ll see how that schedule works out for everyone and if any edits need to be made, we’ll twerk tweak as we go along. (You can twerk if that helps get the creative juices flowing – but I, for one, will not be sharing any videos!)

So, here is this week’s blog post prompt…

Tell us your favorite story about FIRE.

Wednesday Writing Prompt: Fire | SeeLaurieWrite.com

Seems dramatic, doesn’t it?? I was thinking about fall, and campfires, and burning leaves, fire pits, and fireplaces… you could also share holiday memories, recipes for camping food, DIY tips for building a fire pit in your yard with your family, or perhaps even something you lost in a fire. Nothing is out of bounds as long as the topic of the story is fire. So, go have fun, and come back Saturday to link up!!

Update: Here’s the link to the post with the link up thingie. Come on over! (P.S. the post doesn’t have to be new – if you have one already written, we’ll just show it some new love!)

    1. Thanks Karen! The more I worked on it and thought about it, the more excited I became too. :)

  2. I’m going to love this! Already have my story in mind–now to get it on paper.

  3. Hmmm. I could totally write about childhood memories or how to deal with the fires of life! I think I’ll go nostalgic. Love the new concept!

  4. […] Hey everyone! I finally figured out the issue with Linky Tools (apparently I had not completed my sign up) so here is the link up post for the writing prompt I shared last Wednesday. […]
