There are plenty of things on my to-do list that I could have been working on today. The fully decorated Christmas tree in my living room, for example… But the sun was out, and it was possible to be outside without long underwear and a various assortment of handknitted accessories, so we grabbed the Boychild and the GPS and hit the road to find a geocache.

We stopped for a little lunch, then went up to Lake Atalanta in Rogers. We weren’t the only ones with the idea to get out, and there were several families enjoying the lake. We plugged in our coordinates and headed up the trail to find our treasure…

here it is!

He was so excited to scramble up the rocks to find the little cave. This is in stark contrast to the whining that commenced about 15 minutes later as we headed back to the car. It was TOO MUCH WALKING. (Obviously, we all need to get more exercise…)

proud boy

Disregard the leftover pad thai sauce on his chin…  But do take a look at the superhero missle blaster thing and baseball gloves… my son loves to be in costume, even if it’s just a hint. Anyone else have kids like this? I kind of love it. <3

the treasure

Here’s the stash we found. Loved the Hannah Montana sticker… guess this one’s been in place for a few years. We left our note on the log and took a little Lego car from McDonald’s (what a surprise).

what we left

We left a resin block with a beetle in it, and a little quartz crystal. A fair trade, I think.

a junker always spots the junk

And of course, I spotted a cool bottle in the leaves. If it hadn’t been broken it may have been claimed as MY treasure… but I left it.

headed out

It was a lovely day to get out and breathe some sunshine in. What did you do today?

  2. Never been geocaching, but it’s something my husband and I keep talking about trying. We just need to get out there and do it! :)
